About me
Hello! My name is Claire Platt and I'm a Surrey based knitter/sewer/maker and Fashion and Textiles Teacher. In 2007 I completed my BA (Hons) Drawing and Applied Art, specialising in embroidery and later went on to complete an MA (Design) Textiles branching out into knit.
My work tends to be playful and quirky and combines my love for textiles with somewhat unlikely subject matter. I have been fortunate to have shown my work both nationally and internationally, including being shortlisted for the UK Hand Knit Award in 2010, exhibiting in Touchstones Gallery's 'Knit One, Purl One: Contemporary Knitting' and winning the Grannies Inc. 'Design a Vest' competition in 2011. I was also interviewed and featured within Leanne Prain's book, Hoopla: The Art of Unexpected Embroidery.
I am currently enjoying exploring surface design, working on my own knitwear collection and documenting the many UFOs & WIP in my life - you can follow my journey over on Instagram @fromtheyellowhouse
