week fifteen: books, bees and soup

I had a go at making some simple little sketchbooks this week. Back when I did my Foundation course I had an amazing printmaking tutor who was really enthusiastic about bookbinding and so I used to make sketchbooks all the time. I think it's something I'd like to practise a bit more, it's really simple and fun! I've only put  5-10 pages in each book and I'm gonna set myself little themes, like watercolour for one the ones above. Most of them were plain and simple but I experimented a bit with different types of paper for this one...

I also took my first steps towards my dream of keeping bees and attended a bee keeping taster day at a local apiary, it was incredible -  I got to see inside a hive and hold a frame with bees on! They are fascinating creatures, I also got to sport the rather fetching beekeeper look...

And I made soup this week! A bit of an odd assortment of activities this week but it's been interesting. I followed this recipe for butternut and nut butter soup. Well I say followed, I didn't add chilli or plain yoghurt and I didn't add a whole jar of peanut butter. This was mostly because I watched it being made on river cottage, then made some notes on a post-it and followed my odd notes, I thought it was just a couple of spoonfuls of peanut butter and I don't like chilli so my brain must have erased that from the recipe. Still it was delicious and I feel I ought to make soup more often as a result!
